The beautiful Island of Dokdo is South Korea’s easternmost territory in its administrative district.
Dokdo lies 216.8 kilometers east of Jukbyeon, Uljin-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do and 87.4 kilometers southeast of the island of Ulleungdo.
Dokdo consists of two main islands, Dongdo (East Island) and Seodo (West Island), and 89 surroundings islets of tiny rocks and reefs. The shortest distance between the two main islands is 151 meters at low tide.
Dongdo: It is located to the southeast of Seodo, with a surface area of 73.297 square meters, rising 98.6 meters above sea level, and totaling 2.8 kilometers in circumference. On the island, there are docking facilities, a coast guard station, a heliport, and a staffed lighthouse.
Seodo: Located to the northwest of Dongdo, it has the highest topography and largest surface area among the islands of Dokdo, with a surface area of 88.740 square meters, rising 168.5 meters above sea level, and totaling 2.8 kilometers in circumference. The major facilities on the island include residents’ living quarters, a hiking trail, and drinking water facilities.
Surrounding Islets: Scattered around the two main islands of Dokdo, there are 89 surrounding islets of tiny rocks and reefs with a combined surface area is 25,517 square meters. Among them, Buchaebawi, Chotdaebawi, Gunhambawi, Neopdeokbawi, and Haenyeobawi are representative islets of rocks.
